Analytics

Click depth measures the minimum number of clicks required to reach a specific page from a website's homepage. Pages with lower click depth are generally crawled more frequently by search engines and perceived as more important within the site hierarchy. Optimal site architecture keeps important pages within 3 clicks of the homepage. Deep pages (4+ clicks) may be crawled less frequently and receive less link equity from the domain's overall authority. For URL shortening services, click depth applies to both the service's own site architecture and the analytics they provide. Services can report the click depth of destination pages, helping users understand whether their shortened links point to easily discoverable content or buried pages that might benefit from direct short URL access.
