In the SEO field, it is also called "position zero."
Featured snippets come in several display formats, such as paragraph, list, and table. The list format shows steps or lists as bullet points, and the table format presents comparison data in tabular form.
The same documentation states that there is no way to designate a page as a featured snippet, and that Google's systems determine whether a page is suitable for a featured snippet.
The FAQ pages and glossary pages of URL shorteners can also appear as featured snippets for searches such as "what is a short URL."
However, when an answer appears in a featured snippet, the searcher may finish without opening the site (this is called "zero-click search").
